Abstract
The continuity of political violence during elections time is call for concern in Zambia. Incidents of political violence during elections are an indication that we still have a long way to go before we achieve a culture of tolerance. The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) notes that political leadership by party leaders and professionalism in the management of public assemblies by the police is a key factor in addressing political violence. We should ensure that election campaigns and other political activities are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.
Description
There is need to address the issue of political intolerance if we are to have peaceful and violent-free elections in 2021. This paper documents the concerns of JCTR on how political violence during elections in Zambia indicates that the country lacks a culture of tolerance. A culture of tolerance entails that individuals and groups must be willing to “put up” with other individuals and groups in respect of their civil liberties.
