There is need to address the issue of political intolerance if we are to have peaceful and violent-free elections in 2021. This paper documents the concerns of JCTR on how political violence during elections in Zambia indicates that the country lacks a culture of tolerance. A culture of tolerance entails that individuals and groups must be willing to “put up” with other individuals and groups in respect of their civil liberties.en
The continuity of political violence during elections time is call for concern in Zambia. Incidents of political violence during elections are an indication that we still have a long way to go before we achieve a culture of tolerance. The Jesuit Center for Theological Reflection (JCTR) notes that political leadership by party leaders and professionalism in the management of public assemblies by the police is a key factor in addressing political violence. We should ensure that election campaigns and other political activities are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere.en
