Abstract
The Basic Needs Basket (BNB) is an accurate monthly survey that shows the bare minimum cost of living for a family of six - the basic cost of essential food and non-food items needed by an average sized family to live with a decent and healthy lifestyle. It is truly a minimum, excluding additional everyday costs such as education, transport, healthcare and clothing. This brochure is aimed at raising awareness of the JCTR Basic Needs Basket within ordinary Zambian Households. We are all affected by the struggle to meet basic needs, whether directly in our own homes or indirectly through the difficulties faced by relatives, friends, workmates and fellow citizens. We should all be aware of the BNB and its importance in the home. The basic needs basket is in addition discussed in relation to the households like being a guide for budgeting in households and being a lever for asking for fairer wages from employers and lobbying Members of Parliament for economic changes like reduced affordable taxes and levies.
Description
The brochure begins with the introduction of what JCTR is all about, some of the activities engages in and the contact details. It gives a guideline of what basic needs basket is and it's benefits and the role and importance of households knowing their basic need prices.
