Abstract
Access to affordable water and acceptable sanitation is critical to the health well-being of Zambians. Many people do not have access to clean water for the basic purposes of health and sanitation. In early January, the Lusaka Water and Sewage Company (LWSC) admitted that some parts of the city were found to have a contaminated water supply. This lack of access to safe water is directly linked to progression of health issues and diseases, such as cholera and diarrhoea. Limits to access are also contrary to the basic economic, social and cultural rights of citizenship of all Zambians.
Description
The lack of clean water robs people of their dignity and autonomy because water is a component for a common good. This statement includes the critical thinking of the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection on the treat that lack of safe drinking water possess on the Zambian people.Citation
