Women and Development: Reflections From Zambia
Abstract
The paper addresses the challenges that women have been facing in Zambia to attain development. That this lack of women participation is a contributing factor in the lack of development in the country. Women who constitute a higher percentage in the agricultural sector can further contribute to the social, economical, cultural, political and legal development of the country. Further stating that the poverty being experienced in the country is as a result of the discrimination of women in the development programs of the country. The article further cements that in society at large, especially in developing countries like Zambia, women’s effective participation in development is all too often hindered. And the country is all the poorer for that. Women’s groups, human rights institutions and Church organisations of both women and men must work together to assure that Women in Development is more than a slogan but a reality for everyone to benefit from.
