Abstract
Government"s efforts to address the financial leakages and fight financial crimes was a progressive move. The financial Intelligence Centre Bill enacted in 2013 by the Patriotic Government was mainly to safeguard the natural resources in order to eradicate poverty and prepare for good sustainable development. The FIC reports showed an increase in the continued wastage of public resources. The increase in the reported suspicious transaction from K4.5 billion in 2017 to K6.1 billion in 2018 was worrying. The increase in the abuse of resources was also reflective of the entrenching culture of corruption and impunity in the country. JCTR called upon the Republican President and his Government to desist from the temptation of dismissing the FIC reports, but must instead endeavor to address their contents with the seriousness they deserve as letting the corruption trend to continue risks the peace and stability which this country needs to prosper.
Description
The Financial Intelligence Centre released the 2018 FIC report which was an eye opener for the country on the crimes done in the financial sector. This brought a lot of talk about the actions which should have been taken after the release of the report. JCTR is one of the organisations that demanded action on the report.
