dc.description | Basic rights and freedoms are important and are entitled to all human beings. This statement shows that the protection, cultivation, promotion of, and most importantly access to these rights or lack thereof has a direct effect on the dignity of the human person. The Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) believe that improvement of citizens’ access to economic, social, cultural rights (ESCR) upholds human dignity. | en |
dc.description.abstract | The Government of the Republic of Zambia, recognises that all human beings are entitled to economic, social and cultural rights (ESCR). JCTR supported by Misean Cara facilitated a project aimed at improving people's awareness of rights or entitlements in relation to education, health and water and sanitation in Chishipula, Kapulanga, Chamboli and Simoonga. These field visits revealed the severe limitations of access to basic necessities, that people are denied human rights in general and ESCR in particular. Without any such access, human dignity is compromised. Hence it is imperative therefore that the state improves citizens’ access to ESCR. | en |
