In July 2023, Zambia's Cabinet gave approval in principle for a bill granting public access to information, marking a significant step towards transparency and accountability. This bulletin discusses the importance of the Access to Information (ATI) Bill and dispels common misconceptions about its impact. Financial transparency, including the declaration of assets by public officials and the funding of political parties, is urgently needed to foster a culture of openness in Zambia. As the nation approaches the International Day for Universal Access to Information on September 28, 2023, the hope is that Zambia will soon enact legislation safeguarding this essential human right.en
