Chipata May 2014 Basic Needs and Nutrition Basket Report

This survey was conducted on 24th to 27th May 2014 by the Social and Economic Development Programme of the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection. Average prices were calculated on the basis of surveys conducted at Kapata Market, Saturday Market, Navutika Market, Kaumbwe Market, Magazine Market and Shoprite. Additional information was obtained from ZESCO, the Eastern Province water and Sewerage Company and schools, clinics and houses around Chipata. The May Basic Needs Basket is approximately US$332 based upon the average exchange rate of K 6.8343 per US$ prevailing on 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th May 2014. Please note that other monthly costs would include personal care, clothing, recreation, etc.
