This survey was conducted on 25th January 2014 by the Social and Economic Development Programme of the Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection. Average prices were calculated on the basis of surveys conducted at Masala Market, Twapia Market, Mushili Market, Lubuto Market, Chifubu Market, pick “n’ pay and Town Centre Shoprite. Additional information was obtained from ZESCO, the Kufubu Water and Sewerage Company and schools, clinics and houses around Ndola. The January Basic Needs Basket is approximately US$ 523 based upon the rate of K5.5209 per US$ prevailing on the 24th of January 2014. Please note that other monthly costs would include personal care, clothing, recreation, etc.
